Well now that August is here that means the basketball season will soon be upon us! This year I am taking a step back from the high school scene as I will be attending school in the fall and unfortunately will not have the time to coach the boys at Don Bosco. The head coach of the Junior team will be taking over the head coaching position of the Senior team.
This year was a good year to step away as the team is going to be continuing to build a strong program but also it was the last of my original group of kids to leave the program. I am happy to say that they are all off to post secondary education and looking to a bright future in the fields that they choose to be in ... congratulations men! It is also good timing because their will be a lot of juniors moving up to the senior level this year with lots of spots left with so many players graduating. The kids understand what the coaches expectations are and already understand his offense and will learn the senior teams defense leading up to the first game in mid-November. I wish them and the school the best of luck and look forward to catching some games when I am in the area.
This year will be a great year for Bosco basketball, new leadership, new players and a great buzz around the school ... people may or may not know this but basketball at that school is crazy! Never a seat left in the gym when its a home game! Love those kids and will miss their energy!
I still will be coaching but only at the college level this year as it is a better fit for my school and work schedule ... This year we will be looking to improve on a great year that we had last year with many of our players returning ... We lost a great coach this past summer as he has moved on to a JUCO school in the USA. I wish him the best and look forward to seeing that program become a main stream in the near future! ... there are some good kids coming into the program this year that will help us out on both sides of the court ... fast, quick guards and some athletic forwards ... should be a good group this year and hopefully make it even further in the OCAA tournament. The work begins in 4 weeks so I hope to see everyone at our weekly workouts!
Should be an interesting coaching year for me and I will admit it will be strange not walking in the hallways of Don Bosco every morning at 6:30am and be greeted by a great group of young men ...
