Playoffs February 16, 2010

Tuesday was the beginning of the Ofsaa push for the Bosco boys as they faced Archbishop Romero in the first round of the playoffs. Romero squeaked out a win over Bosco earlier this season and the Eagles were looking to go back to Romero and seek a bit of revenge ...

In a slight change in the starting 5 for Bosco as I wanted to show a couple of things ... 1) to the starters that just because they start doesn't mean they don't have to play hard, 2) show the guys that did start that their dedication in practice and the limited minutes this year was much appreciated and that they deserved the start, & 3) to bring in a bit more fire power off the bench ...

The new starters got us off to a great start attacking the basket and forcing their 6'11" center to choose a foul or a lay up ... we were tied when I started making substitutions as a couple of my guys picked up some early and quick fouls ... the guys coming in off the bench played equally as tough and continued to keep the game close as we neared the half ... Romero went on a bit of a run to end the half and took a 10 point lead into half time ...

The second half again started with our new starters and again they played hard but continued to trade baskets with Romero ... again due to foul troubles I had to make some substitutions and like before the bench came in and played so very well ... we went on a bit of a run to close the gap to 4 points before Romero opened a small run of their own to increase their lead to 12 points going into the 4th quarter ... In the fourth the teams continued to trade baskets each team making small runs and stops but with 3 minutes left Romero went on a run to close out the victory ...

With the loss Don Bosco is out of the TDCAA playoffs as well as the Ofsaa qualifier ... An unfortunate loss as I know we could have taken the game but the players played so very well, they hustled, dove, played great offense and tremendous defense but most of all we played like a team the entire game ... we came up a bit short of our goal for the season but we left the courts with our heads high as we gave it everything we had ...

i am very proud of this team and the way they handled themselves all year long ... I wish for the graduating players all the best as they move forward in their academic and basketball lives ... I hope to see them at the college or university level playing a game they love so much ... not because I coached them but because they are all very talented and gifted players ...

Congratulations on a great season Don Bosco! I look forward to next year with a great group of guys and some very talented Juniors coming up ... should be another great year for the Don Bosco Eagles!

A congratulations goes out to the Jr. Boys team who had a great season and played one heck of a good game against Father Henry Carr 'A' team in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Keep your heads high you played well you may have lost to the best junior team in Canada but you played hard, never gave up and showed what true Eagle pride looks like! Great year guys!!
