To day was the last practice before our first game! Yes that is right the season is on der way and we have our first set of games this weekend! Seneca is holding an eight tournament this weekend at our Toronto Campus (Don Mills and Finch) ... Should be some good games so if you are in the area please feel free to come by :)
Ok back to practice ... So we didn't want to run to much conditioning because we have a game on Friday so we had them get a good warm-up in and we began running our offense ... had them in bound the ball run the ful court and make a minimum of 5 passes before they could score then they had to inbound the ball using our press break and again run through the offense ... Everyone went through that a couple of times with us stopping it to correct a couple of things ...
The next thing we covered in practice was our full court press ... it is coming along nicely just had to tweek some stuff here and there but I like how it is starting to look ... we figure we add one press for this tournament and can work on more as the season approaches ...
Third section of the practice we introduced a set play for them ... nice easy play but gets the ball to where we want it and also works perfect with our motion offense so the other team wont really see it coming ... it's a nice intro to the motion as it gets the players moving ... we were finding the wings were just sitting there not getting open for our pg so this will help plenty ...
Fourth I took them in groups of five and we worked on the offense ... mainly working on the rules for the guards and the forwards ... as well as changing the wing players position as they begin the offense ... getting some more movement ... after a couple of run throughs the offense was moving nice and the players started to get into the flow of it ... very nice to see ...
The last little bit of the practice we worked on some inbound plays ... both on the baseline as well as the sideline ... nothing to special but should give us some looks and also get us into our offense should the scoring opportunity not show ... we introduced four baseline plays and one sideline play ... the sideline allows us to get the ball in and work into our offense right away and into a quick scoring opportunity ... if we have the right passer inbounding the ball could prove to have some very entertaining inbounds!
I am very excited about our first game of the season ... we are a young team and not many have played at the college level ... well only two have thus far ... so it will be very interesting to see how they handle it and now many have the jitters ... hopefully they don't last to long with the jitters and they can down to business after a couple of minutes ...
Our first game if Friday at 8Pm as we face La Cite ... Last year they were not a very strong team but if you slept on them they could give you a great run ... as they did to us during the season last year ... let's see how our rookie team does as this should be a good game for us to get the 'kinks' out of our system before we play a more structured team ... i am still not looking past La Cite as they can pull out a win if we don't play our game ...
Until then ...
