Seneca @ George Brown - Oct. 21, 2009

The Seneca Sting started their season off on the right foot when they defeated George Brown 71-62.

Both teams came out of the gates a bit slow missing easy jump shots and lay-ups while making some careless turnovers ... With both teams trading baskets the game remained close with Seneca pulling to a small lead going into the half ...

Again the second half started much like the first half both teams not playing hard and making some sloppy plays ... after a quick timeout and a minutes of Coach giving it to them the Seneca Sting started to play with that energy needed to pull off the win ... the running fast break game started to take its toll on George Brown as the Sting opened their lead up to 20 points ...

But the second unit of the Sting couldn't handle the lead and didn't come out with that energy the starters had and George Brown started to make a run and cut into that lead ... with five minutes left George Brown had the lead down to under ten and continued to apply the pressure ... The Sting had difficulties getting the ball into the offensive end as George Brown applied their press ...

With two minutes left in the game the lead was down to 7 but George Brown couldn't close the gap from their as the Sting were able to hit their foul shots towards the end to seal the game ...

Overall the game from the coaching stand point was very sloppy ... the first half we started out slow didn't run our offense and didn't push the ball ... once we started to push the ball we had easy transition baskets and were able to apply a full court man to man press ... we also had a terrible time hitting our free throws! We shot under 50% for the game from the line ... that is just unacceptable especially when it is a close game which shouldn't have been that close ...

the second half was much the same as the first half except that we forgot how to run our press break and continued to turn the ball over ... even after a time out and talking about the break we still were unable to ... but I liked how we pushed the ball in the open court and slowly began to run our offense ...

Still lots to work on but we got the "W" which we needed and with the season just starting we have lots of time to improve.

Next league game ... Seneca @ St. Lawrence Nov. 6, 2009
