Seneca Practice - Oct. 15, 2009

So we started practice off tonight with a small coaches meeting to go over some things that we have noticed with the team ... we talked about changing t he offense around (which we did) as apparently my offense is too complicated with them at this point in time ... Unfortunate as it would have given them lots of options to score without have to call a play set ... anyways we also talked about the intensity during games and during practice ... and as we are talking the team is running our fast break drill ... speaking of intensity a bunch of them were jogging the run ... needless to say as soon as we finished the quick meeting Coach laid into them about it and even pointed out a couple of the players who were lacking ...

Ok onto the practice itself ... we started off with a 4 minute drill that worked on rebounding, hitting the floor for loos balls, and defensive slides ... It is 4 one minute sessions with 15 second rests ... its a tough drill but I think if we do this every practice we should become a very intense and aggressive team :)

We then moved onto more defensive drills ... this is were we wanted the group to work hard and really turn the offensive player ... we did this drill at 100% so if you were slacking it showed ... unfortunately one of the guys was not working hard and was told to leave and come back next practice to work hard ... and we mean it they have to maintain the energy that we bring for an entire practice or game ... if they can then we will be a hard team to beat ... well if all goes right anyways ... Ok back to the drill so you do zig zags to half court then at half its one on one to the basket working our defensive principles and not allowing middle penetration while not allowing the O player to beatus down the sideline for a lay-up ... Good drill we will have to continue to use.

Next up was the intro to the new O ... it's still our same set up as before just really dumb downed ... I am not going to go into it that much but it seems that most of them understand it ... we shall see come game time ... but tey were able to run it during our full court scrimmages so that was good to see ... Next practice we will provide them with another option ... Glad to see they understand something just disappointing that they couldn't understand an offense I worked very hard on doing ... Now feel a bit lost as what to do as the O has been given to another ... Time will tell ...

We then worked on our foul shots ... got then running a bit to get the heart rate up and then shoot them ... this is an area that we need to improve on ...

The last drill that we did was 3 point jump shots with a close out ... everyone shot about 50 jumpers ... a good way to end the night ...

Next practice is Monday Oct. 19, 2009

Until then ...
